Giving Back

Thurgood Marshall Middle School

One way our employees have been giving back is through a local school in Nashville, TN. Thurgood Marshall Middle School is located in Southeast Nashville. With a diverse population of more than 1,000 5th-8th grade students, the school is utilizing creativity as a means for improving grades and test scores. One method is “Art2STEM”, a middle-school program to foster creativity with engineering, mathematics, science, and technology. Advent was asked to come present to a summer camp held at a local university for a large group of Art2STEM members. As a result of that, the Art2STEM coordinator at Thurgood Marshall Middle School asked if her students could visit our offices, and the relationship grew from there.

Advent developed a marketing competition where groups of Art2STEM students would present concepts for re-designing a space. After presentations by the young ladies in the program, Advent installed designs on the walls in the cafeteria that had been solely conceptualized, developed, and finalized by students of the Art2STEM program. When we asked the winning group why they had chosen to design for their school, they said they wanted to leave a legacy for the students coming after them.
