One Well at a Time

Introduction

703 million people lack basic access to clean and safe drinking water.

charity: water works to end the water crisis. To date, the non-profit organization has provided 20+ million people with clean water in 20 countries around the globe by partnering with experienced local organizations who build sustainable, community-owned water projects.

Bringing the global water crisis to life—especially in a first world country where clean water abounds—is a challenge. Founder Scott Harrison has devoted his life to meeting that challenge. One of the most effective ways he has found is to bring the stories to life of those who live without clean water; the ones who travel miles a day by foot just to provide water for their families.

The charity: water experience center in Franklin, Tennessee was created so that people could experience firsthand how clean water can change lives—and how they can be a part of the solution.

The interactive experience center features:

  • An immersive “water walk”— visitors carry a 40-pound jug of water as they walk on a treadmill surrounded by wrap-around LED screens with footage of people in third world countries walking miles to retrieve water
  • A theatre room with a curved 5K resolution LED screen showing some of the 1,000+ videos that charity: water as captured from the work around the world
  • An interactive well pump is connected to a sensor; as visitors pump the well, the screen floods and rises with water, symbolizing the moment when another person gets clean water, thanks to the generosity of donors
