Introduction
Purdue’s Mackey Arena is one of the model venues in college basketball. Boilermakers fans revere their history and the unpretentious character of their arena, but Mackey is nonetheless one of the loudest venues in the country. In three projects with Purdue Athletics, Advent created displays and exhibits to engage a variety of audiences at key points during their journey through the venue. At each touchpoint, the Boilermakers replaced cluttered and stale exhibits with relevant content and energetic graphics.
Exterior graphics welcome visitors to the arena. Once inside, they can learn about the depth of Purdue Men’s and Women’s Basketball through a series of six storytelling alcoves. In one, Purdue tells the story of John Wooden’s playing days, allowing fans to take a close look at memorabilia from these foundational moments from the sport’s greatest coaches. Other alcoves showcase curated artifacts from legendary coaches and award-winning players. In a lounge geared toward players, recruits and families, the Boilermakers show off their deep history of success with quick-read numerology.
